Tea experts are agreed that there is no loss of quality in a cup of tea made from quality tea bags when compared to a cup made from loose tea and there is no doubt that brewing tea from bags is far more convenient and less messy than brewing tea from loose leaves. PRICE INCREASE MAY 2009
You may notice that the price of the teas that we offer has increased recently. Whilst increases are always unwelcome, we have no
alternative other than to reflect in our selling prices the increases in costs of the teas that we purchase.
It is possible for us to source teas of a lower quality and therefore at a lower cost but we know from talking to customers that the quality
of our products is important and must be maintained.
Prices across the whole range have increased for the following reasons:-
1) Tea consumption now exceeds the amount of tea that is produced in the world.
2) There has been a drought in both East Africa and on the Indian sub-continent which is the world's biggest producer of tea.
3) Perhaps the largest factor causing teas to increase in cost is the decline in the value of the pound against other currencies.
These factors have combined to force prices across the whole of the market for tea up substantially.
As a example, the average price of tea from Kenya has increased by 53% between 2007 and late 2008 and indications are that this upward trend
may continue in the future.
This pressure on prices is reflected across the whole quality range so all tea companies are responding by increasing their prices.
